WINEMAKER NOTES: Full
green gold in color. The nose has some lifted
citrus and apricot but a full crème
caramel complexity
derived from
very ripe
Catarratto fruit
and 35% Malolactic fermentation. The palate is full
and rich nutty
Catarratto. The acidity is sufficient to carry the
wine with a long persistent
finish.
Catarratto: Catarratto is an indigenous white varietal extensively
grown in Sicily. Highly productive, originally it was used for the production of Marsala, with little attention
paid to vinification (because faults would be lost in the vinification process). Now it is also used to make a 100% varietal wine, as well as being blended with other
varietals such as Chardonnay, into dry white wine. There are two strains; Catarratto Bianco Lucido, which is less widely planted, is considered to produce more aromatic
and spicy wines, and to be superior to Catarratto Bianco Comune. The large amounts of Catarratto planted in Sicily are claimed to make it the second most widely planted
variety in all Italy
Cararratto normally a blending wine, is emerging as a
single varietal wine (much like merlot did). It is spicy and aromatic, with a mineral finish. Predominately grown in Sicily.
