Amarone della Valpolicella in a wine of a very ancient tradition and praised by poets and writers as far back as in the Roman era. This wine which boasts an ancient tradition, is still made in small quantity from the best grapes of Valpolicella, picked up and left to dry on rafters. Amarone is perfectly suited to spicy and savory dishes and is also a real treat for all occasions and as corroborant wine between meals.

To make this blend of 75% Corvina Veronese, 20% Rondinella and 5% Molinara, the grapes are harvested and then left to dry naturally in a well-ventilated room until January. This drying process, called appassimento, is an ancient technique and is unique to the Valpolicella region. Le Poesie has improved this technique by introducing innovative equipment which controls temperature and humidity conditions inside the drying center in order to preserve the integrity of the grapes during the delicate phase of the 3 to 4 month drying period. The wine is then aged in new French barriques for 18 months, followed by an additional 7 months in larger oak casks and 14 months in bottle. It is deep purple in color with a bouquet full of dried fruit.

WINEMAKER NOTES:   Deep purple in color with a powerful bouquet of warm, spicy raisined fruit. Rich and full bodied, intense and elegant. Velvety smooth. Amarone is an extremely important wine in Italian viticulture as it is unique to the Valpolicella region. This wine is traditionally drunk with game, roasted and grilled meats, casseroles and well matured cheeses. Excellent with hearty dishes. Since the grapes are allowed to dry partially before fermenting, Amarone has a distinctive flavor which can also accompany new or exotic sweet and sour dishes. It is therefore also perfectly suited for drinking with Asian and middle-eastern dishes

Valpolicella DOC [vahl-paw-lee-CHEHL-lah]
A very important red-wine DOC zone located in northeastern Italy's VENETO region. It's situated between BARDOLINO and SOAVE, just north of Verona. Valpolicella ranks just after the CHIANTI DOCG for Italy's total DOC red-wine production. The wine is made primarily from Corvina Veronese (CORVINA), Rondinella, and Molinara grapes, although four other varieties can comprise up to 15 percent of the blend. Valpolicella's standard DOC wines are rather LIGHT and very fragrant and fruity. Those labeled SUPERIORE have a 1 percent higher minimum ALCOHOL content and are AGED for a minimum of 1 year.
