WINEMAKER NOTES:
This unique wine is made using similar processes to that of traditional port producing methods, with the fermentation process interrupted
through the addition of fermented pomegranate juice, resulting in a wine with a high alcohol and sugar content. It is then and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels in
Rimon Winery’s special aging sun room.
Dark purple and maroon in color, this wine has a nose of stone fruits and sweet spices. A full bodied port, it is sweet on the pallet, but not overwhelming, with a smooth
mouth feel with a delicate warm finish. It pairs well with cheese appetizers, fruit and chocolate desserts, and blue cheese.
HEALTH BENEFITS:
In addition to exceptional clarity, rich color and a distinctive and
appealing flavor, Rimon Winery wines also have a hidden bonus: a wealth of vitamins and healing properties. Long recognized for their healthful properties, pomegranates
contain vitamins A, B, and C, iron, calcium and other essential minerals. They are also rich in antioxidants, which are beneficial for blood circulation, and to the
heart. Thus, pomegranates are effective in helping to prevent heart disease and arteriosclerosis, and in easing inflammatory conditions.
According to research recently conducted on pomegranate juice and seed oil by the University of California and the Technion
Institute of Technology in Israel, pomegranates neutralize free radicals three times more than green tea or red wine. According to the study, “If consumed daily
over a long period of time, the powerful antioxidants in pomegranates may help to combat cancer and may also prevent hardening of the arteries.”
Additional studies suggest that the fruit may even help people suffering from various ailments such as Type-2 diabetes and high blood
pressure. The studies also indicate it may promote the retention of LDL cholesterol in the arteries and help alleviate menopausal and post-menopausal symptoms in women
(pomegranate is the only plant known to contain estrogen). Today the pomegranate has become one of the fastest growing trends in the food industry. |
